About Me

Hello! My name is Jim Nguyen and I'm a student in Mark Roberge's ENGL 709 class during the Fall 2012 semester at SFSU. This is my first semester in the MA Composition program and I'm excited to be back in school after some time away. I've had a varied work history to date, working in business consulting, law, government (Congressional Office), and now to education.

I'm currently teaching at two community colleges (De Anza and Ohlone) in the subjects of Political Science and Ethnic Studies/History. I've started the Master's program at SFSU because I began to see how much my students struggled with their writing, and have decided to assist students where I can to help them write, read and simply communicate better. I believe this will have a positive impact on their ability to succeed at the community college level and give them confidence in their lives.

I am married to my wonderful wife, Linda, and we have a three-year old daughter, Tessa. My hobbies include running, fishing, reading, rooting for the U.S. Men's National Soccer Team and hiking. I'm looking forward to the course and the program as a whole and getting to know my classmates and professors.
